Comments on the analysis
- The theme is presented over a dominant pedal tone. It begins in the upper voice in syncopated form and moves to the inner voice in measure 5.
- A contrasting phrase (B) develops the theme in the bass with modulations to F major, G minor, and D minor.
- The theme returns as the inner voice over the tonic and dominant pedal tone to the end the piece.
