Chord symbols are used to represent chords.

Major triads use the letter of the root note:

Minor triads use the letter of the root note followed by m, min, mi or -:

Diminished triads use the letter of the root note followed by dim, o or m(b5):

Augmented triads use the letter of the root note followed by aug, + or (#5):
