The gavotte is a Baroque dance of French origin, characterised by its moderate tempo and duple metre. These gavottes are organised in a ternary form:
Gavotte I - Gavotte II - Gavotte I
The Gavotte I has a binary form. Gavotte II is unusual in that it combines binary and rondo forms. The B section is preceded and followed by the A section, and a C section is added to create the rondo form.
