To represent the different types of seventh chords, we can add minor, major or diminished seventh intervals to the chord symbols of the triads.

Minor seventh interval

A 7 adds a minor seventh interval to a triad (Bb in this examples):

Dominant seventh
Major triad with minor seventh
Dominant seventh sus4
Sus4 triad with minor seventh
Dominant seventh with augmented fifth
Augmented triad with minor seventh
Minor seventh chord
Minor triad with minor seventh
Half diminished seventh
Diminished triad with minor seventh
Can also be written: Cø

Major seventh interval

Maj7 or adds a major seventh interval to a triad:

Major seventh chord
Can also be written C or C△7
Minor triad with major seventh
Major seventh chord with augmented fifth
Augmented triad with major seventh

Diminished seventh interval

dim7 or o7 adds a diminished seventh interval to a diminished triad:

Inversions

As with triads, to indicate an inversion, we add a slash and specify the note to be played in the bass:
