The Art of the Fugue is one of the great monothematic works of Bach. It is based on this theme:
With this theme Bach writes 14 fugues (one was unfinished) and 4 canons:
Fugues
- 4 simple fugues (Contrapunctus I - IV)
- 3 fugues with inverted answers (Contrapunctus V - VII)
- 4 double/ fugues / triples (Contrapunctus VII - XI)
Contrapunctus X - 2 mirror fugues (Contrapunctus XII - XIII)
- unfinished quadruple fugue (Contrapunctus XIV)
